When planning our private home in the Denia neighborhood of Haifa, I reached out to several architects. We found the SaaB firm through an internet search. We liked the style of the houses we saw on their website – primarily a modern style.
After meeting with various architects, we chose Ronit Barkol and Luciano Santandreu to design our dream home. First and foremost, we were impressed by the warm personal attitude, the willingness to listen, and the welcoming demeanor of Luciano and Ronit, the likes of which we hardly encountered with other architects. This excellent architectural duo asked about our preferences and offered us several alternatives, noting the pros and cons of each option. We felt like partners in the process, and fairly quickly, we arrived at the best alternative for us.
The second factor in choosing these architects was the high level of professionalism they demonstrated. Okay, so in answer to the question of how we built a large and luxurious house in an all-time Israeli building record of just 9 months! When it usually takes more than a year—and I mean from the moment construction started right down to the final hanging of the curtains throughout the house.
The answer is simple. While I did have the advantage of having built a house for my daughter a few years ago, so I already had some experience, beyond that, so much ultimately depends on the architect—or rather, the architectural team, their experience, and their talent.
But many have talent and experience, and while that's essential, it's not enough. In my opinion, you need something more, and that "something" consists of three things: First, the ability to dive into the absolute smallest details and foresee them in advance. Second, to listen to my wife and me, and to all our crazy ideas, with an open and willing mind—yet at the same time, to argue with us and not give in when we are wrong or simply don't understand. And the third thing is to care deeply about our home from the very beginning to the end, even if it requires attention on the weekend or dealing with things at a moment's notice.
When you have a team like this, you save a lot of time on changes or additions and progress rapidly. The contractor knows exactly what needs to be done in advance, there are no unexpected surprises, and everything is completed on time and on budget.
So that's it, I was truly lucky. Ever since, every single morning I take a walk around the house and silently bless Ronit and Luciano for every corner, awning, gate, step, niche, shelf, cabinet, ceramic tile, and rug we have in our home because of you.
