Kfar Tavor Residence: A Modern house on a Narrow Plot
SAAB Architects is proud to unveil its latest residential masterpiece, a modern sanctuary thoughtfully positioned i§n the tranquil heart of historic Kfar Tavor, Israel. This custom single-family home represents a bespoke response to a unique and challenging site, offering 240 square meters of meticulously designed living space on a challenging 500-square-meter narrow plot. Our firm, renowned for site-specific architectural solutions throughout Northern Israel and the Galilee, crafted this residence to satisfy the functional needs of a modern family while celebrating the rich light of the region.
Overcoming the Narrow Plot with Design Innovation
he site's defining constraint was its narrow, elongated proportions. Standard design approaches would have inevitably resulted in an uninspired series of enclosed rooms linked by long, dark corridors, creating a sense of confinement. SAAB Architects' architectural mission was to defy this geometric constraint. We set out to create an alternative spatial narrative, where natural light, seamless flow, and integrated open spaces replaced long, dead passages. The objective was a family home that felt expansive, surprising, and connected at every turn.
The Patio as a Light-Filled Heart
The pivotal element of our design solution is a central internal patio, which we conceived not as a mere air well, but as a true 'room of light' at the very core of the house. This central void cleverly separates the public areas from the private family zones, flooding the heart of the residence with abundant natural daylight from above. By placing this light well at the pivot point, we transformed the journey through the home into an experience of light, making a walk through the spaces feel like an exploration. This central hub is integrated with an open-plan family corner, creating a natural meeting point where the family comes together.

Spatial Flow and Material Integrity
Transitioning from traditional corridors, we designed integrated spaces. A dedicated family area is strategically positioned where a passage would typically exist, creating a functional, shared space. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls with minimal black metal frames dissolve the barrier between inside and out, connecting the interior directly to the private garden. This is further enhanced by carefully integrated louvered window systems for controlled light and privacy. A striking architectural feature is the bold, floating board-formed concrete roof which extends horizontally to provide essential shading while establishing a strong horizontal line. This modern aesthetic is balanced internally by the warmth of natural wood in custom cabinetry and stone elements, ensuring a tactile and timeless feel.
